What's the use of InfoPath submit button

Question

Hi every body

I have been working with infopath services for a while & i am used to do (publish button) to publish forms as templates and content types

I saw some administrators on the internet talking about submitting before publish & i have no clue what submit is really doing ?

Please tell me when to use submit option and i will be thankful

Ahmed,

Publishing and Submitting are two different things in Infopath. Publishing is basically promoting designed form to the Sharepoint List/Form Lirary. Form is ready to use once you publish.

Submitting on the other hand is saving the data into the list or library.

I did use the submit option so many times but i get no results nothing is being saved on a list or library !

You have to create a "submit" data connection in your form.

Then, after you've published your form to a SharePoint library, users can go to that library, fill out the form, and click "submit".

Submit option needs to configured with a data connection. Make sure the form is allowed to submit from "Submit Options" under Data tab if you are using default submit option.

If you are using custom submit, check for Submit Data Connection in "Data Connections" and make sure the data connection is setup properly to submit/save data to the list/library that you want and setup an action rule on the button to submit using the right data connection.

Does this apply to certain types of forms ?

because all forms I create doesn't have the submit botton
