Can't get rows to repeat on following pages when printing

Question

When I go to specify a row to be repeated in page setup, the box is grayed out.  The Excel Help response to my question is that I am in the cell editing mode but the response does not tell me how to get out of it.  I'm using Excel 2010.  Previous versions that I used did not have this problem.
