Can't get SQL 2008 Express installed

    Pergunta

  • Hope some one can help me. I am trying to install 2008 Express version and I constantly get the following error. I have tried pretty much all flavors of express and get the same thing. I uninstalled several time and reinstall but keep getting the same exception error. Can someone help me out. Here is the error:

    ************** JIT Debugging **************
    To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
    application or computer (machine.config) must have the
    jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
    The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.

    For example:

    <configuration>
        <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
    </configuration>

    When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
    will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
    rather than be handled by this dialog box.

  • Have you installed .net 3.5 SP1 on your system?

    According to following link you only need .net Framework 2.0 SP2 but I will still recommend installing above package before installing. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx

  • Prior to Vista, .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 should be fine. However for Vista or later version OS, SQL Server 2008 Express also requires .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. You can find the following description from this page http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=58CE885D-508B-45C8-9FD3-118EDD8E6FFF&displaylang=en.
    <quote>
    Step 1: Download and install Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1.

    Step 2: Download and install Windows Installer 4.5.

    Step 3: Download SQL Server 2008 Express by clicking the appropriate link later on this page. To start the installation immediately, click Run. To install SQL Server Express at a later time, click Save.

  • From the error message provided it looks like the .NET 4 version of the System assembly is being incorrectly loaded.  I'm currently seeing the same error trying to install SQL 2008 Developer and I have .NET 3.5 SP1 installed already as well as the Visual Studio 2010/.NET 4 Release Candidate.

  • Hi. I am also seeing this error when installing SQL Developer after installing VS 2010 Ultimate (not the beta or RC). Has anyone found a solution? I should add that I am running Windows 7 Enterprise x64. I've also tried installing using the 'slipstream' method. It still fails. But the error above is generated before anything. If I ignore it, I can continue, but it eventually fails.

  • Dear Charles!

    Am trying to install SQL Server 2008 on Windows server 2008 R2 for the last five days but getting errors continuously like:

    1. SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:

    Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created..

    2. MicroSoft Net framework: unhandled exception occurred in your application.

    An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for userSettings/Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.LandingPage.Properties.Settings: Could not load file or assembly ‘System, Version=4.0.0.0, ............

    As you suggested

    I tried to install  Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 but it doesnt run on it, then I installed  Microsoft .Net Framework 4.0.30319.1 it is installed on it.

    Then I installed Windows Installer 4.5 too

    But my problem is not solved, kindly help me asap.

    Ques: I am a user as “administrator” in the system, is it enough or have I to log in as a main administrator of the system.

  • Its RIGHT answer:

    Rename the user.config file located at C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Local\Microsoft_Corporation\LandingPage.exe_StrongName_ryspccglaxmt4nhllj5z3thycltsvyyx\10.0.0.0 TO USER.CONFIG.BAK

  • I cannot find AppData folder under my C:\Users\UserName path. I also encounter same problem when installing mssql sever 2008.
    segunda-feira, 23 de janeiro de 2012 14:32
  • I too had that problem where I could not find it. I opened Command Mode, right-click and run as administrator, and typed in the information. The one directory is hidden (AppData), all others you can see. So type this exactly (not case sensitive): cd C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Local\Microsoft_Corporation\LandingPage.exe_StrongName_ryspccglaxmt4nhllj5z3thycltsvyyx\10.0.0.0 [enter]. That should get you to the directory. Then type the next command: ren USER.CONFIG USER.CONFIG.BAK [enter]. That will do it for you.

  • Deleting the **user.config** file mentioned in the error message resolves this.

    Full path:

    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft_Corporation\LandingPage.exe_StrongName_ryspccglaxmt4nhllj5z3thycltsvyyx\10.0.0.0\user.config

    Note: I am using Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) .
    First I have uninstalled Visual Studio 2010, then I deleted user.config from the above path.

  • I'm having the same issue installing SQL2008 full version on 2008 x64 Server but there doesn't seem to be a C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Local\Microsoft_Corporation directory????? There is a C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Local\Microsoft directory but there is no user.config file there so this workaround only seems to work if installing on Win7.

    Has anyone solved this on win2008 Server?

    Thanks

    Delete the directory "\Microsoft_Corporation\LandingPage.exe_StrongName_ryspccglaxmt4nhllj5z3thycltsvyyx\"

    The "LandingPage...." is the directory that you need to delete. The suffix part of the name is random I believe.

  • One hint is that the LandingPage.exe_strongName... is not visible, so you have to paste the link into windows explorer to get to the proper directory.
