Backup to UNC path permissions take a long time to "register"

    질문

  • I have setup a network share for some "ad-hoc" backups, given an AD group read and write permission and added the sql server service account to the ad group.

If I run powershell as the sql service account, im able to create a file and write to it, in that network share location - almost instantly after adding the account to the group.

    - but, for some reason it takes alot longer (hours even...) before im able to run a backup to that same location from ssms.

I have seen this on several occations before, anyone have a hint or clue to whats causing this or where I might look for an explanation?

    Edit :

Im thinking this might have something to do with a gpupdate... still, any clever remarks on how others handle this is appreciated.

  • Hi,

When the issue happens, you could check the DISK IO performance on the share server, and the overall all performance for the SQL Server such as CPU usage, memory usage.

  • This is not a performance issue, its simply the permissions to read and write to the folder that doesnt "kick in", because the service is active and the permissions doesnt seem to refresh until the service is restarted (logs out/in).

Im not sure if it possible to refresh these permissions with a running service, but if anyone knows of a way to do it id be happy to hear about it
