SQL Server 2008 R2 Repair error

    Question

  • Hi

Trying to repair the SQL 2008 Enterprise server after my Sharepoint installation showed some issues with SQL Express. I'm getting the below error when I start the setup from Start/Prog.../Sql installation center or from Program/Features Setup or even from a .iso setup.exe, I always get the below error. I know that I may have messed up the c:\Windows\Installer folder when I moved the files to another drive and moved them back when I needed some space on C:. but, I'm pretty sure I moved all of the files back, but apparently some cached setup files may be missing or corrupted.

How do I correct this? I'm willing to Uninstall the whole SQL Server and start over again... Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I spent several hours trying to resolve it myself.

OS: Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit and it also has some SQL 2012 components installed on it.

  • Can you try copying

    C:\Users\MSUNDARAM\Downloads\x64\setup\sql_engine_core_shared_msi

    to

    C:\Windows\Installer\30446e6.msi

  • Thanks for you response. That did not help. The bottom of my original post is from Sharepoint Installation logs, NOT SQL server.

    I only get this below....

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:

    C:\Windows\Installer\b4712.msi.

when repairing the SQL server... I started the SQL setup or repair and go through initial steps and select the Instance and click the Repair button and see this b4712.msi error. can't find anything useful in Event viewer, where else can I get relevant info about this setup attempt.

btw, C:\Users\MSUNDARAM\Downloads\x64\setup\ no longer exists, but I copied the contents of sql_engine_core_shared_msi\sql_engine_core_shared.msi from SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise ISO to C:\Windows\Installer as 30446e6.msi and still Sharepoint install failed.

How do I fix this and get SQL Server uninstalled or repaired. I know the original install folders have moved, can I just get more information on where to put those install folders and get this damn thing reinstalled?

    Thanks again for your help.

  • Make use of http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/sql.html recovers damaged .mdf files after using unstable software, hard drive fails, system errors.

Utility restores tables, procedures and etc. items.
