SQL Server Express 2005 Installation / Permissions / Security / Remote Connections

    Question

  • SQL Server Express 2005 installed on Windows Advanced Server 2000 - SP4.

Per http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/914277, Remote Connections have been enabled.  The Browser Service has been enabled.  There is no firewall in W2K AdServ-SP4.

User logins have been created in SQL Express granting permission to the database.  Users have been added to the Users group on the SQL machine.

My client app is not connecting to the database.  Does Windows Advanced Server 2000 - SP4 support SQL Express 2005?

How can I connect to the database?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

  • Hello,

Please, could you tell us which edition of Sql Server Express 2005 you have installed ?
    (normal,with advanced services,with tools )
Please, could you check whether the Sql Server Service is running and whether the Sql Browser Service is also running ? ( thru start, management tools, services)
If you have installed the edition with tools, it is not sure that you have installed a Sql Server Express 2005 instance.

At least, you should have installed the tools so you can use Sqlcmd
start, run, and type in the dos-like window sqlcmd -L
you should obtain a list of the Sql Server instances installed on your Windows Advanced Server

  • SQL Server Express 2005 (9.0.1399) with Advanced Services.

SQL Server Service and SQL Browser Services are both running.  There is an instance.

    Thank you.
