Can SQL 2005 Run on Windows Server 2012?

    Question

  • We just upgraded our servers to Windows 2012 Standard.  We have a license for SQL Server 2005.  During installation we are warned about compatibility issues.  The installation completes but , the component services are not being
    presented as options. 

    Anybody sucessfull in doing a full install of SQL 2005 on Windows 2012?  Any clues?

  • Hi,

    SQL 2005 is not compatible on Win 8 and win svr 2012. SQL 2008 and later versions can be installed.

    Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (the release version and service packs) and earlier versions of SQL Server are not supported on Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8. You will receive a warning in the Action Center if Windows 8 detects an instance of SQL Server 2005.

    To resolve this issue, upgrade or remove the existing SQL Server 2005 instance. For information about how to upgrade SQL Server, visit the following MSDN website:
