  • You can install both on the same machine. You will have one instance SQL Express and one instance with the full version.

  • Hi Yacovr,

Yes, you can run both versions on same server. One default instance and another one is named instance.

Check this link for more details.

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143531.aspx

For example you have installed SQL 2008 (standard or enterprise or deve) on ServerA, you need to point your application to ServerA. If named instance (eg sqlexpress), you need to point ServerA\SQLExpress.

  • Hi yacovr,

You can install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express and SQL Server 2008 on the same machine, they can work together. They will have separate instances for themselves.

But please be careful about SQL Server 2008 Browser especially the remove or reinstall of it. Because all the SQL Server 2008 R2 instances and SQL Server 2008 instances use one SQL Server Browser service on the same machine. If you install SQL Server 2008 first, the SQL Server 2008 Browser is installed on your machine. In SQL Server 2008, the SQL Server Browser is a separate installation. If other SQL Server exists on the system together with one or more instances of SQL Server 2008, the SQL Server 2008 Browser is not removed automatically when the last instance of SQL Server 2008 is uninstalled.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

    Thanks,

    Grace
