How to partition a fact table

    Question

  • Hello,

Could someone tell me how to partition a fact table?

In the past I partitioned tables where I used the fiscal year to establish the range but in this fact table I have a fiscal_year_id instead.  I'm not how to go about it.  Thanks.

  • I suppose you must be having a dimension where you have fiscal information and whose primary key is the foreign key in the fact table as fiscal_year_id. If this is the case you can join this dimension with your fact table and still use fiscal year to define your range and based on this do the partitions.
