To force an offline restore, first take the database offline

    Question

  • I am doing Piecemeal Restore of Database, SQL2008 r2, Simple Recovery Model, RedGate backus

    I've done

     RESTORE DATABASE adb  READ_WRITE_FILEGROUPS
     FROM DISK = 'c:\readwrite_backup.sqb'
     WITH PARTIAL, RECOVERY;

    It fails when I run
     RESTORE DATABASE adb
     FILEGROUP = N''fg_100'',
     FROM DISK = 'c:\Readonly_backup.sqb'
     WITH  RECOVERY

    With errors:
     SQL error 4307: The online restore to database adb failed. It may be appropriate to perform an offline restore instead. To force an offline restore, first take the database offline using the ALTER DATABASE statement.
     SQL error 3636: An error occurred while processing 'DbFile' metadata for database id 5 file id 72.

    What is wrong?

  • Perhaps  you need to ask Red Gate support team to help you out. I have not tried personally PARTIAL restore by using red-gate tool

  • I am not sure if redgate backup can be used with "Restore database" command.

    Refer http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190984.aspx
