Basically I forgot I already had an instance of SQL server installed on my machine and installed this one. I have installed the later instance but I have no means of uninstalling the other instance (the SQL Server Express uninstallation routine only allows me to select the latest instance in order to uninstall).

Also I cannot get rid of this programs from my Control Panel:

Microsoft SQL Server R2 Setup (English)

    Microsoft SQL Server R2

But I think this is a side effect of having an instance of SQL Server Express still on my machine, well that's what I read from the

    documentation.

I figured out how to do it.

I upgraded the existing database after uninstalling the additional one - I don't know which version of SQL Server this was (the installtion routine for SQL Express 2005 reported it as SQL Express 2000 and the one for SQL Express 2008 reported it was an SQL 2008 Express database). Not thati made any difference because the installation routine for SQL Express 2008 is capable of upgrading both versions thankfully. Then I uninstalled.
