Formatting the chart color in excel 2010 is not working

    Question

  • Hi,

I have created an excel dashboard where we will have to show sales of products, the data is coming from cube.

I have to show one particular product sales in blue color remaining in grey color i have to do this without using VBA code i had manually changed that product color as blue remaining as grey but when this is not working properly for different year selection in the slicer it is not holding blue color. Is this kind of formatting not possible in Excel 2010 without using VBA code?

  • You can also put the airline field on the legend fields (series).  This will by default color all series bars in different colors instead of defaulting to having them all blue.  And you can still override each series' Fill color to whatever color you want.

Let me know if that helps.

  • Hi Eshwar -

Believe this should be possible via the chart properties.  Can you post a screenshot of your chart for reference?

  • I was able to set the Fill on a single data series (Qatar Airways) and switch the filter on the Values without affecting the Fill color.  Here's what I'm working with.

I did notice that it looks like your measure changed.  As a test, I changed my measure's "Summarize by" setting from Sum to Average, and when I did that, Excel lost the Qatar series' Fill color and reset it to the default. But once that was reset, I can toggle between the 2 countries in the slicer without losing the Fill setting.

Should be able to get to the bottom of your issue.  But it's probably easier to troubleshoot if you can share more of your data, or perhaps the workbook.  A screenshot of a subset of your data and/or a copy of the file on your SkyDrive would be helpful if you can share it.

  • Ok the real problem i could see this is happening only in one particular situation if there is only one airline.

I know the reason for this there is color themes in excel that was defined to show blue in the first so by default it will show blue and i cant make it to show burgundy because there could be a case of one airline and not that of Qatar then that will also be shown in burgundy which is not correct.

    any suggestions?
