how to connect do different named instances in 2012 ?

    Question

  • Hi,

    I have found trick how to set default named instance when connection throuigh SSMS to SSIS, by modifing msdtssrv.ini. Is it possible to connect to two named instances on one server at once ? I dont know how, and I need to work many times on prod and dev instance at once.

    Thanks a lot

  • Hello,

    In SSMS you can connect to as many SSIS on other server as you like; but SSIS don't run as a named instance, it's a shared component = it's always the default instance.

  • oki, so we have two instances on one server production and development. Does it mean, that I have to test all "under development" packages on same place like production packages ? wow

  • Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean? You have one machine and there are 2 (named) instances of SQL Server database engine running? If it is only one machine then: Yes, on that machine you have only one SSIS service running.

  • You can modify the .ini file to add another package store on the other instance.

    Please see:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms137789.aspx

        <Folder xsi:type="SqlServerFolder">
          <Name>Instance2 MSDB</Name>
          <ServerName>ServerName\Instance2</ServerName>
        </Folder>
