SQL 2008 In-place upgrade

    Question

  • hi all,

i'm having a doubt, recently i saw a webcast from Microsoft TechNet

"Actualización de sus bases de datos hacia SQL Server 2008" and the guy says that "All versions of sql server 2005 can be upgraded to sql server 2008".

In the "Version and Edition Upgrades" (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393.aspx) the supported upgrade path from SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition it's only SQL Server 2008 Enterprise.

Now i'm about to migrate from SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition to SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition, is this possible?

or if i have Enterprise Edition on SQL2K5 it must be Enterprise Edition on SQL2K8 too?

  • Yes, it must be upgraded to SQL Server 2008 Enterprise, or you can install 2008 standard and detach/attach the databases to the new instance.
