How to create an excel template using MDS Entities / Attributes etc?

    Question

  • I need to create an excel template for Product Team to fill out the Product Specification, one sheet per Product Model like Product type- "TV"  Modal Name - "NTB012012".

In the first column I want to display all the Product Spec Related fields (for example Height, Width, Dept, Contrast Ratio etc for Product Type "TV") of an Entity and in second column user will fill the data. On submit, data will go into the MDS.

Fields to be displayed in first column of excel sheet will vary based on the Type of Product like TV, DVD Player etc, so different product type, different excel template.

    Sample Excel Sheet as below

    -------------------------------------

    Cell A                      Cell B

Product Type           TV (it can be fixed for a template)

    Model #

    Part #

    Resolution

    Height

    Width

    Dept

    Contrast

There will be at least 50 fields like this.

    -------------------------------------

So user will pull out the excel template for a product type & model and upload data into MDS.

Please let me know if this is all possible or any work around using single or multiple entities etc.

Let me know If I am not able to explain here what I want.

    Thanks!

  • We have an Excel Add-in that works with SQL Server MDS 2012 that lets user enter data into an MDS system using Excel. However, it won't be in the exact layout that you want. Outside of that, the only other way to do this would be to write an excel sheet with a macro (that calls the MDS API).
