Microsoft Jet Engine "Unspecified error" - using Excel file source in SSIS 2008

    Question

  • Hello,

I am just starting to migrate my SSIS 2005 packages to 2008. One of them uses an Excel file source, which works absolutely fine in 2005 but when I try to use in VS 2008 I get an error titled "Microsoft Jet Database Engine", and the error text is simply "Unspecified error". This happens when I go to Edit the Excel source and click on the drop down titled "Name of the Excel sheet".

Testing has actually shown that I cannot use any Excel files as data sources in SSIS 2008 - I get the same error.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

    Thanks
    Matt
