SQL 2012 Express Installation Location possibilities for VAMT 3.0

    Question

  • Hello All,

I am looking into using VAMT 3.0 (since it can save unlike 2.0 heh) for activating the clients on my network.  Our server C: drive space is a little tight and I was wondering if i could have SQL 2012 Express (bundled with ADK) exist on the larger D: drive, or would I need to use full blown SQL server to make that work.  Would there be any other problems with trying this configuration.

    Thanks for the help

  • Hi Phill E,

After installing the SQL Server Express 2012, there are some ways to change the instance location path for saving the space of C disk.

    1. We can reset the saving location of the instance by using SSMS.
Right click the default instance, choose the server properties and change the database default locations in database setting box.
    2. Also we can uninstall the SQL Server Express 2012, re-install and change the installation path of features and components to D drive. Meanwhile, for saving the space, we can select the components of SQL server we need to install on our computer, rather than install full blown SQL server.

  • Hello Sofiya,

Thank you for the insight.  Some old, unused software persists on the C:\ Drive that I am going to uninstall.  I am hoping it will provide enough space for the SQL Server Express files to exist while I move the database onto the secondary drive.

    Thanks,

    Phill
