  • Balmukund has nailed it down.

Nadeem - "when i set the SQL Server database engine to NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE the install works correctly but when i set it to NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM "

You are having the failure for "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM " .. you need to grant that account full control on the folder.

On a sidenote - Its NOT recomended to use "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" as sql or sql agent startup account. Use a low priv domain account.

    Thanks - Vijay Sirohi

  • Hi Madeem,

According to the error message below, one possible cause for your problem could be the install media is corrupted. Could you please copy the install media again, and try to reinstall?

    Configuration error code:    0x4BDAF9BA@1306@23

Configuration error description: Could not find the Database Engine startup handle.

If there still have problem with the installation, would you please collect the error messages logged into the setup log file C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20101024_163803\Detail.txt. This will help us to troubleshoot the issue.

For more information about how to View and Read SQL Server Setup Log Files, please see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143702.aspx

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

    Thanks,

    Grace

Please kindly mark the answer if it is a workaround. Thanks a lot *^_^*

  • The error means that SQL service was unable to start during setup. There would be a file ERRORLOG(and same name) in  C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20101024_163803

    Please share that file.

  • i uninstalled sql server then went to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\  and then right click on the protect folder and added the network service users and then choose full control and installed it again

and the same error happens with the same number " Error: 15209, Severity: 16, State: 1."

to be sure that it was the right folder i have granted C:\Windows\System32\Microsoft\Protect full control for the windows services

    and still same problem applies
