DBCC CHECKDB showing error messages

    Question

  • Hi All,

When I m running DBCC CHECKDB, it has thrown the following error message:

    DBCC results for 'LCSLog'.

    Msg 8921, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

Check terminated. A failure was detected while collecting facts. Possibly tempdb out of space or a system table is inconsistent. Check previous errors.

CHECKDB found 0 allocation errors and 0 consistency errors in database 'LCSLog'.

    Msg 845, Level 17, State 1, Line 1

Time-out occurred while waiting for buffer latch type 4 for page (1:332568), database ID 2.

With the same time-out message update stats are also failing. Can anyone please throw some lights on this

    Thanks,

    Satish Kumar.

  • TempDB is located on D: drive and it has plenty of space on drive and auto growth is 10%.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Satish,

Could you run a chkdsk on the drive that holds your system databases and TempDB? That Time-Out message is occuring because SQL can't pull the page off the disk into memory, combined with the inconsistent message above makes me think that perhaps you have some physical disk issues.

    My suggestion would be

    1. Run CheckDB on all of your System DB's

    2. Run Chkdsk against the drives you have your system DB's/TempDB and the user DB that you are trying to run CheckDB against

I think that might be a good place to start.

    Thanks,

    Stephen

Run dbcc checkdb with estimateonly and see how much size the checkdb needs and if you have that much space on the disk ..and have you taken the database in emergency mode before running  checkdb . you can do it by running alter database <dbname> set emergency (2005 onwards) .If its 2000 , then let us know .

  • Hi All,

Time-out occurred while waiting for buffer latch type 4 for page (1:332568), database ID 2.

Resolution: Please install Cumulative update package 4 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3
