DBMK, Certificate linkage?

    Question

  • When I attemped to create a Certificate I was told I needed to create a Database Master Key first.  Of course, it worked as advertised but where in the "Create Certificate" command is this connection between the two established?

    TIA,

  •    When creating a CERTIFICATE with a private key, the private key needs to be protected either by the master key (DBMK, this is the default), or by a password.  If in the CREATE CERTIFICATE DDL statement there is no password specified, it is required that the DBMK is accessible.
