Not able to execute XP_CMDSHELL in SQL Server 2008

    Question

  • I'm new to SQL Server 2008.  In previous versions of SQL Server, I used xp_cmdshell for everything.  I have a new test machine in 2008 and I enabled the properties of the instance to allow for remote connection.  I also used sp_configure to turn xp_cmdshell on and it shows in the configurations of the machine as being turned on.  The problem is, when I try and execute xp_cmdshell I'm getting an access is denied, and I'm the sysadmin.   I have checked all the connection protocols and everything is enabled.  I checked all the services and everything is started.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this issue?
