  • Rama,

PowerPivot is supported just on the latest version of Excel 2010. It will not work with older version of Office. You can always install Excel 2010 side by side with older versions of Excel.

Wouldn't recommend side by side installation unless you don't create macros. The macro recorders in Excel 2007 and Excel 2003 are mangled by Excel 2010.

  • Colin,

I have Excel 2007 and 2010 side by side, but I am not using macros. Thanks for letting me know about this issue - I'll be more aware myself and will be more careful with my recommendations.

    Rama,

If you're looking for a plug-in which transforms Excel into a powerful buisiness intelligence tool and you need it to support Excel 2003, 2007 or 2010, you should take a look at Vizubi .

It's still in Beta but it looks very interesting.

  • I am running Excel 2010 alongside Excel 2003, which I need for a proprietary charting software package.  Does anyone know how to install PowerPivot on a setup like this without getting the "Setup is missing prerequisites: This add-in requires Excel 2010" error?  I am using the correct version of the PowerPivot .msi (x86).

    Thank you!

  • Hi

I have Xl2003, Xl2007 and XL2010 all installed on the same machine under Windows 7.
The PowerPivot Addin installed just fine for me.
What is your default setting for XL in file associations?
Perhaps you need to /unregserver and / regserver for XL14 to to be the default file association, rather than XL11.

  • The full answer according the Microsoft msdn is:

"PowerPivot workbooks can be opened in Excel 2007. However, Excel 2007 cannot be used to create or modify PowerPivot data or to interact with PivotTables or PivotCharts that use PowerPivot data. You must use Excel 2010 to get full access to all PowerPivot features."

So you can create them in 2010, but you can still view them in 2007.
