SSRS 2008 - DateFormat

    Question

  • I'm trying to do a simple date format, and the report builder keeps throwing an error.

    I'm trying to use FormatDateTime()

    When I hit F1 for the Help file, and search this function, I get a bunch of garbage that doesn't even pertain to SSRS 2008. I can't find anything on MSDN or Google, zero examples. The only example is in the expression builder, when clicking on Common Functions -> Date & Time -> FormatDateTime. It says to use the second paramter like this DateFormat.ShortDate    then when I try, red lines appear under my text.

    1. How do I use FormatDateTime()
    2. Why is the help so poor in SSRS 2008?

    ^use the integer values in the first table for the desired format

    so for example
    =formatdatetime(today, 2)  will do vbShortDate format and will display as 2/16/2010  (if thats how its specified to display short dates in the client's OS settings)

    I agree, I wish there was a more comprehensive resource for SSRS expressions
