Expand collapse the Columns in reporting services.

    Question

  • hi all,
    i have a problem regarding the expand collapse of the columns.
    I have a report, which shows the results by 3motnhs, 6 months reports in a year.

    i have 3 columns for quarter and 3 columns for half early. i need to group them into Quarterly and Half early.
    When any one expands the Quarterly, then only i need to show the three columns and same for half early..
    By default both are collapsed.
    Is there any way to do that. i know how to group rows, but i need to group columns to be expand and collapse.

    please help me out.
    if you didn't get correctly, please let me know.

    thanks
    -Praveen.

  • Hi all,
    i did this very successfully.
    No Matrix, no other,. i am done with tables only.
    Just a small trick
    here are the steps i followed.

    1. Select all the columns that you want to make expandable, collapsible.
    2. Hit F4 [Properties window] --> Select Visibility, and in that, set these values, Hidden = true and ToggleItem = ID of the textbox [Where you want to show the Expand[+], Collpse[-] symbols that text box id. in other words parent text box id.]
    3. Done, Here we go.

    Hi

    If you are using Matrix you can group the columns as follows

    1. Yearly

    2. Quarterly

    3. Monthly

    Then try adding toggle item

    Thanks

  • hi smitha, thanks for the quick reply.
    But i have some extra columns in the table.
    I have firstname, last name, state, city, zipcode, q1, q2, q3, h1,h2, h3.
    Those are the column list.
    i need to toggle quarter by grouping q1, q2, q3 and the same for h1,h2, h3 in half early.
    All other columns no change, only those last 6 columns will be toggled. i am using table.
    i don't know how i need to do this.
    Please help me out.

    thanks

  • Hi

    Doing this in table might not be possible

    Use Matrix and you can find Sample report in Adventure works sample reports

    Thanks

  • hi Smitha,
    I know SSRS and reports using table and Matrix.
    but the problem is with the columns in my report.
    Some columns needs to be grouped i.e. collapsable, exapandable and some not.
    I tried with Matrix, but it's not possible for me....

    thanks

    Hi Praveen,

    You have to put

    All the detail level data as Row Group(Let's say Loan Number)

    All the Summation fields which are grouped into Data Part Let's say SUM(UPB) etc

    Year/Quarter/Month will come under Column Groups

    Just remember one thing you can not put detail level data after Summation Field

    It is surely achievable with Matrix

    -Thanks,

  • hi all,

    Finally i got it correct

    1. create one Report parameter

    parameter name:   showall

    which has non-queried values as follows:

    label                  values

    ~~~                  ~~~~~
    Yes                  Expanded
    No                    Collapsed
    Initial value is:
    Non-Queried :   Expanded
    2. set visibility property of the row to:
    =iif(Parameters!ShowAll.Label ="No",true,false)
                 or
    =iif(Parameters!ShowAll.Value = "Collapsed", True, False)
    set toggleItem to a textbox (eg: textbox1)
    3. set (textbox1) InitialToggleItem property
    =iif(Parameters!ShowAll.Label ="Yes",true,false)
                 or
    =iif(Parameters!ShowAll.Value ="Expanded",true,false)
    RESULT:
    ----------------------------
    ShowAll?  YES
    Animals            Name
    -Dog
                            xxxxxxxx
                            xxxxxxxx
    -Cat
                            xxxxxxxxx
                            xxxxxxxxx
    ----------------------------
    ShowAll?  No
    Animals            Name
    +Dog
    +Cat
    <Expression...> Rocks!!!!
              now u can make all the report data to expand and collapse in single option...
