SQL SERVER STANDARD 2012 installation wont proceed on WINDOWS SERVER STANDARD 2012

    Question

  • We're setting up 3-servers, running on WINDOWS SERVER STANDARD 2012. 2 servers clustered and the 3rd will act as a storage.

    we've already setup everything.

And the system has passed the cluster validation test.

The problem is whenever we install the SQL SERVER STANDARD 12 when its almost about to finish this error message pops up:

"THE FOLLOWING ERROR HAS OCCURRED WAIT ON THE DATABASE ENGINE RECOVERY HANDLE FAILED."
We've tried several times to reset-up everything. But we still end up with the same error message. - Could you please help.

  • Please review  the installation summary log, which should help provide a better direction to find the underlying issue.  This can be located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\Log\Summary.txt.

The below link references an MSDN blog for such an error message, but again this can be a generall error:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqljourney/archive/2012/03/16/sql-2008-r2-setup-fails-with-quot-wait-on-the-database-engine-recovery-handle-failed-quot.aspx

    Hope this helps

  • Hello,

Please run the cluster validation test. This test may lead you to the cause of this issue.  For information about this test, please read the following article:

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks Alberto,

Unfortunately we did that as well. Everything was GREEN-OK before we proceeded to install SQL12. Its been keeping us in a bind since last week.

Today we tried to toy around with it a bit...heres what we did:

    WINSERVER 2012: ACTIVE DIRECTORY

    DOMAIN CONTROLLER

3RD SERVER: TARGET NODE - STORAGE

    WINSERVER 2008 R2 1ST SERVER: NODE1

    2ND SERVER: NODE2

    CLUSTERED

then we proceeded to install the SQL SERVER 2012 - "NO ISSUES FOUND." everything is running smoothly.

Ive found several YOUTUBE posts RE:WINSRVR12 and SQL SRVR12 issues. It seems WINSRVR12 has some bugs re:clustering.

    Can anyone assist.

  • Can you share/upload the contents of SQL server setup log folder

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20130307_235153\

to file sharing/storage service like SkyDrive.com

  • Hi Alberto,

We are currently using the downloadable trial version from MS. SQL Server 2012 SP1 64bit version.

    http://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/pd/SQL2012EvalCTA/enus/default.aspx

We'll be doing it over again. Keep you posted of any changes.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Alberto,

    Thanks.

Here's whats keeping us busy now.

We've tried using another 3-server system (even though we know SWs are heterogenous) everything works great. So I've narrowed down the difference.

The previous two servers we were using as nodes were using AMD processors.

These are the models of my previous setup:
    1. Dell PowerEdge R710 dual Xeon 2.4ghz, with 12GB of RAM, 8 units of 146GB SAS Hardisk. (STORAGE SERVER; WINSRVR12 and SQLSRVR12 running smoothly)
    2. HP Proliant DL385 G2, AMD 64 Opteron, with 4GB of RAM, 1 unit of 72GB Serial SCSI HD. (ERROR)
    3. HP Proliant DL385 G2, AMD 64 Opteron, with 4GB of RAM, 1 unit of 72GB Serial SCSI HD. (ERROR)

    JUST TO CLARIFY...is WINSRVR12 or SQLSRVER12 as INTEL-based system?
