SSMS does not show create database diagram in right click context menu

    Question

  • Hey all,

I have an install of SQL Server Management Studio 2008.  I'm connecting to a SQL Server running on a separate machine.  When I look at my database and right click on the 'Database Diagrams' folder, it lists "Working with SQL Server 2000 Diagrams", "Reports", and "Refresh".  There isn't an option to create a new database diagram.  Am I missing a permission on the remote server?  Am I missing something in my SSMS install?

    Thanks,
    Denise

  • Denise,

If you follow Working with SQL Server 2000 Diagrams link to BOL:

" SQL Server Management Studio cannot work with SQL Server 2000 diagrams. Use SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager instead.

When a database that contains diagrams is upgraded, the diagrams will be upgraded when the diagrams folder is first opened. "
