Reporting service issue:- A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER) service to connect.

    Question

  • Reporting service was down in one of the server and I had restarted the services but it was not coming up. It was failing with below error

A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER) service to connect.

To resolve this issue, I have increased the time-out value for service startup process by 60000 and restated the server and services came back.

Now would like to know below things

    1) Why we need to increase the time-out value and why earlier configuration/setting was not sufficient ?

    2) Is any patching have any bug which cause above issue?

All replies

    1. The timeout period of 30 seconds was to short.
    2. It is possible that it has been caused by an update. Or it may be with your server's performance.
