Installing SQL 2012 on Sharepoint Server

    Question

  • Hello,

I was wondering if someone would explain to me how SQL 2012 Express works with Sharepoint.

I have installed Sharepoint 3.0 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 server. This has been working without issue. I have installed SQL Server 2012 Express and the default instance that come up is

    [servername]\Microsoft##SSEE

I try and login with this using Windows authentication but this does not work.

I found online that because I have Sharepoint installed I have to login using

    \\.\pipe\MSSQL$Microsoft##SSEE\SQL\query

If I put this in the server name when I launch Management Studio, I can login and see the sharepoint databases.

I have software which I need to create databases and write to these and one of these will be the new Blackberry Entreprise server but I cannot seem to connect to SQL when installing other software. When the software asked for the server name, nothing seems to work.

In the past, the server instances have been [Servername]\SQLEXPRESS and I am wondering if Sharepoint is causing issue in some way.

    Some clarification would be helpful.

    Many thanks,

    Luke
