Can not open page for Report Manager URL (http://localhost:8080/Reports) for SQL Server 2008

    Question

  • Hello,

    Am a C# custom app developer and totally new to SSRS.

    I can access and open SQL Server Report Server page (http://localhost:8080/ReportServer) but can not access Report Manager URL (http://localhost:8080/Reports) for SQL Server 2008. When I tried to open Report Manager URL, its showing IE Title as 'http://localhost:8080/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx' but can not open the said page.

    SQL Server 2008 is installed in my development system and am using Windows Credential in all purposes.

    I have already gone through some posts but couldnot find a suitable solution.

    Error:

    Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

    Most likely causes:

    • You are not connected to the Internet.
    • The website is encountering problems.
    • There might be a typing error in the address.

    Please guide me URGENTLY.

    Best Regards, Arka Mitra.

  • Hi Chaitanya,

    Changing the ports worked for me. Configured TCP port to 9000 and SSL port to 9001.

    And then

    <Add Key="SecureConnectionLevel" Value="0"/>

    Its value was 2, changed it to 0.

    Thanks for all your support

  • Hi Rob,

    SQL Server 2008 & SSRS is running on my dev system.

    Am able to open localhost Report Server URL i.e. http://localhost:8080/ReportServer but if I specify machine name its not working http://armi5406:8080/ReportServer

    If I try to open Report Manager URL localhost URL i.e. http://localhost:8080/Reports , its not opening. Its giving error which is given in above post.

  • Have you tried with IPAddress, i.e., http://IPAddress:8080/Reports?

    Also, as per the above message, it says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage", when do you get this error? Meaning, is it prompting for any windows credentials before it threw this error?

    From the SSRS Configuration manager, under ReportManagerURL, do you see the URL being created? and visible as a hyperlink?

    Has this worked earlier?

    Please let me know!!

  • Hi Chaitanya,

    I tried http://IPAddress:8080/Reports with my IP. Its not working.

    Also tried that http://IPAddress:8080/ReportServer is not opening its giving error as my first post, but http://localhost:8080/ReportServer is working.

    Am not asked to give any credential. After typing http://localhost:8080/Reports , some 10-15 min later error is thrown. By that time IE title is showing 'http://localhost:8080/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx'

    But when am trying http://IPAddress:8080/Reports with my IP, its throwing error within 5 secs.

    In SSRS Config Manager, Report Manager URL is showing as active link.

    For me, Report server is working but Report Manager URL is not working.

  • Please disable the HTTP friendly error messages on your browser. Open IE, Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Show friendly HTTP error messages. You need to turn this off.

    We might see any specific error messages after this. Along with this, can you also open the SSRS Log files, and paste the errors you find in the log files.

  • Hi Arka Mitra,

    Generally, if the report server can be accessed while the Report Manager cannot, we need to check the report server virtual directory setting in the RSReportServer.config file, and verify that it is referencing a valid report server instance. Please refer to the steps below:

    1.    Backup and open the RSReportServer.config file, it is stored at
    <InstallDrive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10.<InstanceName>\Reporting Services\ReportServer

    2.    Navigate to the node <URLReservations>, and you may find there are 2 <Application> child nodes in it, one contains the <Name> node ReportServerWebService and the other is ReportManger.

    3.    Check and correct the text in the node <VirtualDirectory> of ReportManager is the same as the virtual directory of ReportServerWebService.

    4.    Save the file.

    For more information about RSReportServer Configuration File, please refer to:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms157273(v=SQL.100).aspx

  • Hi Chaitanya,

    My friendly HTTP error message is turned off. I checked it before. So, dont worry about it. But surprisingly, its not showing exact error message.

    BTW, where can I find SSRS log files ? I mean the directory path.

    Best Regards, Arka Mitra.

  • Hello Arka, here is the path for SSRS Log files: <InstallDrive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10.<InstanceName>\Reporting Services\LogFiles

    Please confirm the build for SSRS 2008 you are on? I would suggest you to reproduce the error, and check the log files. Please paste the corresponding error messages.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Tony,

    Following is the config file snippet of relevent section.

    Virtual directory for ReportServerWebService is ReportServer. Whereas virtual directory for ReportManager is Reports.

    When I click on 'http://localhost:8080/Reports' link from RS Configuration Manager, its trying to open the page 'http://localhost:8080/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx' as shown in IE title bar, but could not succeed.

     I guess, its fine and but not working.

  • Looks like you have multiple URLs being reserved from your Configuration manager. Can you quickly send a screenshot of the same from your configuration manager?

    Are you able to browse: https://armi5406.IN.nam.ad.pwcinternal.com:8081/reports and http://servername:8080/reports ? Please suggest..

    For troubleshooting I would suggest you to remove the other URLs, and just leave the default one for now, and then try.

    Thanks

    Based on the above errors we might need to verify if the ports 8080, and 8081 are really usable, meaning, if they are unassigned and can be used by Reporting Services.
    We need to find a port which is not being used by any application or try to see which application is using the port. This can be done by using the netstat command. The syntax of the netstat command would be as follows:

    Syntax:Netstat –o

    You can look at the PID corresponding to the port that you are using and then from the task manager you can find which application is using it. Once you have found the application which is using the port, you can either terminate that application of use a different port for the reporting services.

    Suggestions:
    1. Make sure we are using the port which is available.
    2. Remove the unwanted URLs from the Configuration manager, and verify the same in the rsReportServer.config

    Hope this helps!!

  • Hi Chaitanya,

    My Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version is 10.0.1600.22

    not able to open http://armi5406:8080/reports but http://localhost:8080/ReportServer is working.

    Whereas https://armi5406.IN.nam.ad.pwcinternal.com:8081/reports and http://localhost:8080/Reports not working.

    From IE setting I have bypassed proxy for : localhost*;armi5406*

  • I would suggest you to remove all of your URL Reservations, and try to add one after the other. The errors in your logs say that it has some trouble using the ports, but weirdly your ReportServer URL still works fine.

    Working URLs:

    Failing URLs:

    When you delete all of your existing URL Reservations, this is how the RSReportServer.config would look like:

    <URLReservations>
    		<Application>
    			<Name>ReportServerWebService</Name>
    			<VirtualDirectory>ReportServer</VirtualDirectory>
    			<URLs>
    				<URL>
    					<UrlString>http://+:8080</UrlString>
    					<AccountSid>S-1-5-20</AccountSid>
    					<AccountName>NT Authority\NetworkService</AccountName>
    				</URL>
    			</URLs>
    		</Application>
    		<Application>
    			<Name>ReportManager</Name>
    			<VirtualDirectory>Reports</VirtualDirectory>
    			<URLs>
    				<URL>
    					<UrlString>http://+:8080</UrlString>
    					<AccountSid>S-1-5-20</AccountSid>
    					<AccountName>NT Authority\NetworkService</AccountName>
    				</URL>
    			</URLs>
    		</Application>
    	</URLReservations>

     Then try the below URLs, and let me know if you have still trouble accessing your ReportManager:

    If that still fail, then please send me the latest entries to your Reporting Services Log files.

    Thanks..

  • Hi Chaitanya,

    Changing the ports worked for me. Configured TCP port to 9000 and SSL port to 9001.

    And then

    <Add Key="SecureConnectionLevel" Value="0"/>

    Its value was 2, changed it to 0.

    Thanks for all your support
