sql server 2012 vs 2008 r2

    Question

  • are there any performance improvements in sql server 2012 over 2008 r2? I was hoping the database size would be increased but it's still stuck at 10GB.

  • Hi,

You can use this to compare features available in express editions.  I think for a freebie, 10GB's pretty generous.

Whether or not 2012 is more performant than 2008 without leveraging new features?  Maybe.  But things like columnstore indexes, T-SQL enhancements, showplan improvements, etc. could be used to improve upon existing application/database design.
