Does local processing mode in SSRS support OLAP cubes?

    Frage

  • Does the use of the report viewer control and local processing mode support report designed against OLAP cubes?

    Any additional information or links would be much appreciated.

  • Hi itmanager8815,

    To create dataset that retrieve data from SQL Server Analysis Services cubes for a local report, we can use ADOMD.NET. ADOMD.NET is a Microsoft .NET Framework data provider that is designed to communicate with Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services.

    For more information about ADOMD.NET, please see:

  • Hi Bin,

    Thanks for the reply. We are in face using ADOMD.NET to retrieve the data set from Analysis Server and a sample program confirmed that data are coming back. It is when we pass the data set to the local Report Viewer Control that nothing shows up.

    Below is a sample of our code:

    'set the report path in the report viewer control
    ReportViewer1.LocalReport.ReportPath = path

    'get the Adomd connection and command objects
    Dim conn As AdomdConnection = New AdomdConnection(connectionString)
    conn.Open()
    Dim comm As AdomdCommand = New AdomdCommand(sql, conn)

    'build the dataset
    Dim oda As AdomdDataAdapter = New AdomdDataAdapter(comm)
    Dim ds As DataSet = New DataSet
    oda.Fill(ds)

    'add the dataset to the datasource collection
    ReportViewer1.LocalReport.DataSources.Add(New ReportDataSource(dataSetName, ds.Tables(0)))

  • Hi,

    There is an article about Accessing SSAS data by using ADOMD.NET, please see:

    Besides, if you have any more questions about ReportViewer use SSAS cube to design a report, I suggest you that post the questions in ReportViewer control forum. It is appropriate and more experts will assist you.

  • Thanks, we will look at it. A separate post has been entered in the ReportViewer control forum.

    From what we have seen thus far, it appears that SSAS data sets and cubes are not supported by the ReportViewer control in local mode.
