Microsoft Silverlight production for Android OS ?

    Question

  • Hi

Apologies if I have posted in wrong area but this seemed the best place.  My Q> Are/will MS be supporting a silverlight application for the ANDROID OS so that phones such as the HTC Desire, Google Nexus One can run their apps ?

     Any news on this ?

    Thanks

  • folks are asking MS to support more devices and OS's

but at this time i think only some phones that use symbyan(spelling) are supported.

on the front page of this site there is a survery you can take that will ask you about what you want to see in V5. take it and tell ms what you want, like and do not like.

  • I didn't get prompted for a survey, but this is something I would definitely be interested in. The ability to develop for the MS platform and, with minimal effort, develop for Android is very attractive. I think the end result is far more apps and developers on Win Phone 7, since they can leverage their codebase for Android as well.

  • There's a thread called Silverlight 5 Wishlist which asks people to give a feedback on which features they would like to be added, modified, even removed... in the next Silverlight 5 version.

    http://forums.silverlight.net/forums/p/163134/430551.aspx#430551

The thread gets a bit overloaded (and even redundant as some point...) overtime and as Pete Brown suggested
    you can submit a new suggestion and vote if the idea has already been submitted...  at the following site;
I believe you've got a better chance to reach the right people there... ;)

    Hope this helps...

  • I hope someone at Microsoft has the clear vision that the succes of Silverlight is depending from the support for different platforms. Even if it is not on a "Wishlist"  It's a bad story silverlight is not supported on the IPAD. If Silverlight is not supported on the Android OS ....

  • Well from what i have read the issues with the iPhone / iPad have to do with Apple banning all development unless it's done with ObjectiveC

  • Read this...

    iPhone jailbreaking...
    http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/mobile/07/27/cnet.iphone.jailbreaking/index.html?hpt=Sbin

This doesn't mean that you'll be able to cut and paste your WP7 code and run it on iPhone by tomorrow however...
It will take a bit more time for it to happen... if it ever happens... ;)

  • The Silverlight port to Linux call Moonlight is reported to make it possible to run Silverlight applications on Android and iPhone.  Here is where you can find more information:

    http://www.mono-project.com/Moonlight

    http://www.go-mono.com/moonlight/

    http://www.taranfx.com/silverlight-iphone-android

I am interested to know how well Moonlight works compared to Silverlight. So, if anyone has information please post.

    Thanks,

Please be aware of the fact the it is Apple that refuses to allow plugin architectures on their platforms that stops Silverlight as well as Flash to be used.  Apple only allows HTML 5.0.

  • I call BS.... MS is just stalling the development of Silverlight for other mobile OS because they dont want other OS to support it. Silverlight is MS's leverage to enter the mobile market, which kinda suck.

I wish most of the CDN providers would switch back to Flash and give MS the finger....

Maybe Apple refuses to allow pluggins, but what's the excuse of MS for not developing Silverlight for Android?

  • Until now there is no option to run silverlight at droid. what everybody wants and need is a microsoft legal information about this support. Android is a open plataform. There is no legal limitations, execept the comercial intersting.
