cannot add SERVICE REFERENCE in SL3 VS2008 3.5 SP1

    Question

  • hello all,

as i'm trying to understand WCF DUPLEX, i downloaded the sample code below which basically based on the MIX 09 CHAT SAMPLE.

    http://silverlightforbusiness.net/tag/duplex/

however, it seems like all of those samples were built before SL3 July version.
    i'm using VS2008, SL3 July version, FW 3.5 SP1.

    the sample code works.
code compiled, built and ran with no problem.

as a learning process, i DELETE the SERVICE REFERENCE and try to add it back in.
this is when i got error:

"An error (Details) occurred while attempting to find services at
    http://localhost:6719/LiveDataService.svc "

the LiveDataService.svc runs fine when i right-click and VIEW IN BROWSER.
nothing else changes in the original code except i DELETE the original SERVICE REFERENCE and try to add it back in.

this error occurs for all the projects that i downloaded that based on MIX 09 CHAT SAMPLE and all were built before SL3 July version.

anyone knows the solution to this problem?

     thanks....

  • Did you forget to start the service before trying to get a reference?

Also, is it still using port 6719?

    did not forget.
as i mentioned in the original post, RIGHT-CLICK on the SVC and VIEW IN BROWSER works fine.

     >Also, is it still using port 6719?

    how do i check?
just view the running service on the system tray?
if so, yes, it is still running on that same port.

  • Hi,

Could you attach the error detail message here? Maybe we could get some clue there.

  • here's when i click on DETAILS:

The HTML document does not contain Web service discovery information.
Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'http://localhost:6719/LiveDataService.svc'.
Could not connect to http://localhost:6719/LiveDataService.svc. TCP error code 10022: An invalid argument was supplied.
Unable to connect to the remote server
    An invalid argument was supplied
If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again.
