  • Hi,

for design purposes I would suggest that you use Expression Blend. For designing applications it would be better than Visual Studio. You can use both side by side (Blend for design and Visual Studio for business logic). Here are some tutorials - http://adamkinney.wordpress.com/2009/10/27/10-expression-blend-3-tutorials-for-silverlight-available-for-download/

here is the official explanation of silverlight

It is in competition with adobe flash

    Silverlight has many uses

    1 netflex -watch movies

    2 windows phone

    3 Data-use prism, dependency injection, entity framework(code first-data model)

    4 esri-geographical mapping

5 I  am sure their are other items you can use silverlight

Silverlight uses client server Model(code first gets you to understand how to use this....http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/data/aa937723 this should be helpful

  • I'm surprised you would try to use SL3.  Not even sure where you would get that somewhat "old" version.  SL5 is the latest version with the most/best features.

  • Silverlight 5 is the best in my opinion.  You should also upgrade your environment to Visual Studio 2010 as well.

HAve you tried to install Silverlightx64.exe v 5.0.6118.0 on a 64bit version of Vista Home Premium?

I'm getting an error, indicating it can't be installed, as (paraphrasing) "your system doesn't support 64 bit software".

I have a build of version 4 installed.

Here are the steps involved in the error:

1.] Check for needed plugin updates through Firefox v 8 on Add-in page.

2.] Check indicates Silverlight update needed, link for update file provided.

3.] Download and attempt to install Silverlightx64.exe (release date 11/18/2011).

4.] Update fails with previously indicated error.

As mentioned, I DO have a 64b op sys, and Silverlightx64 says it is {intended to be} compatible with Vista 64.

NOTE:  While writing this, I found and checked the error log.  The exact error sheds some light on the problem.  It seems I oversimplified the problem.  The error indicates:

    Unsupported 64-bit OS detected

    http://go2.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=87096&errorID=1518

I have an AMD processor. It seems the AMD based 64bit version of Vista (Home Premium) is not supported by Silverlightx64.exe

  • Additionally, does this maybe require running the 64 bit version of IE?  I think I remember reading that the DEFAULT for IE is the 32 bit version.  And you have to navigate the Start menu to find and use the 64 one.
