SharePoint Error: System.Web.HttpException: Request timed out.

    Question

  • Dear All,

    I am creating a SharePoint Site through Custom Code where at the time of creating, it also creates 50+ groups and assign their different permissions to different lists which are around 120.

    Whenever this Custom Code runs, it gives me following error:

    Could you please tell about how can i resolve this issue as there's no problem with the code.

    I've resolve this issue by including the following line in my web.config 

    executionTimeout="3600"

  • I presume this is done through a web part or feature activation.
    If your code takes to long to execute synchronously you can always try to execute it asynchronously (start a different thread and let your main thread continue).
