Upgrade of Custom Templates (like Blog)

    Question

  • On our Sharepoint 2007 Farm we made a Custom Blog Site Template based on the default Blog Template. This is no Visual Studio or Sharepoint Designer Solution but just the default Blog Site Template adapted with some webparts. This was our default Template for all our team blogs.

When we now upgrade to Sharepoint 2010 these blog are upgraded but don't get the visual style of the default Blog Template from Sharepoint 2010. Also some of the things from Sharepoint 2007 are no more there (especially the RSS Button on every Blog Page). Strangely it is only the startpage which is not updated. When I click on a Category Link, the ouptut is the same as on a default SP 2010 Blog.

The same problem exists for us with meeting spaces. We made a custom meeting space template, but they look really ugly when they are just upgraded.

Is there a way to "update" sites?

Could you please let me know the details about how did you upgrade the template from 2007 to 2010? The .stp template is not supported in 2010, .wsp is used now.

  • this is not about the templates itself. It is about sites which are created in 2007 with templates which are based on default templates. For example we made a custom template site called "Company Blog". This template was based on the default Sharepoint 2007 Blog and had some extra webparts.

Now every Blog created in Sharepoint 2007 was based on this Company Blog and has the visual appearance of the default blog. When we now upgrade to sharepoint 2010 this sites (not templates!) have still the old visual appearance of 2007 instead of the new Blog Appearance of Sharepoint 2010.

Is there a way to manually upgrade this blog sites to the new visual appearance?
