Yes, the Data View Web Part. You can also edit and tweak many other web parts from SPD. You can also convert the List View web parts (Add, Edit, Views of a list) into custom list view web parts and change the appearance or add validation to the controls.

Yes, and it has some very interesting features:

    • All XML based, so if SPD does not do exactly what you want, you can hand edit the XSLT to do just about anything. Do a web search on "Data View Web Part" and review some of the videos and blog articles.
    • It can connect to both lists and libraries in the same SharePoint site, or in other sites
    • It can connect to all kinds of data sources: SQL, XML files stored in libraries, external web services, SharePoint web services, and many more

  • Hi Harsh,

You cannot create/develop a custom webpart using SharePoint designer. For that you have to use Visual Studio IDE (2005/2008/2010).

But you can place OOB webparts or other custom webparts inside a webpart zone using SharePoint Designer (SPD).

    Check this link:

For your question on DataView Webpart, check this link:

    Hope this answers your question.
