SharePoint Designer and the url is invalid. it may refer to a nonexistent file or folder

    Question

  • When I open a custom master page and try doing edits and save it back, I get an error that says: " the url <blahblahblah> is invalid. it may refer to a nonexistent file or folder"

When I try to view the file properties in browser, the URL of the file has some chinese characters appended to it. See below:

    /_catalogs/masterpage/Forms/DispForm.aspx?ID=㼮噁噃敩䁷@㲀ⶌ

    Any thoughts or pointers?
