Customize List Summary View?

    Question

  • Problem: Summary view for list only shows 20 items. The summary view for each list is not presented as a view that one can configure or modify.

What I would like to do: I would like to customize the summary view for a list to show more than 20 items in addition to sorting the items but most used or most accessed.

Additonally, I noticed that the summary view for a list I have does not sort alphabetically. Does anyone know how the summary view sorts? is it by most accessed list items?

Also I went through the code for the page in question where I have added this list with the summary view as the connected view and am unable to see any XML or other code reference where I can tweak the items or order shown.

Thank you for any feedback you are able to provide

  • Hi,

The *<Summary View>* is the built-in view and you cannot edit it in the list with SharePoint OOTB.

If you customize the *<Summary View>* via Modify Shared Web Part > Edit current view,  the changes will stored in the *<Current View>*.

For your issue, I suggest you to create a customized view in the list, then set the Selected View to the view just created in the List View web part

Hope the information can be helpful.

  • Thank you Lambert. Yes I have done what you have suggested with many list views however I wanted to utilize the format of that specific view with the bulleted items.
