    Question

  • Hi Kris,

I have both MS office 2000 and 2007 versions but all office documents are set to open with Office 2007. I am not able to edit the excel documents and getting the error "The document could not be opened for editing.  A Windows Sharepoint Services compatible application could not be found to edit the document.” I have sharepoint 2007 environment. What could be possible reasons? please suggest.

  • This is caused by SharePoint not identifying the 2007 Office version on your system.  Often times, this is caused by a simple DLL corruption.  I would do a Repair Install of Office 2007 on your system and then try again.  Once the binaries are fixed and reassociated, you should be able to open the docs just fine.

I trust that answers your question...

  • Hi,

According to your description, I agree with Cornelius. This is caused by:
    1.        Office XP or a later version of Office is installed on the computer. However, the SharePoint support component that is included in Office Tools is not installed on the computer.
    2.        The Owssupp.dll file is not registered correctly in Microsoft Windows.
There are four methods to fix your problem. The way provided by Corenelius is the first method. Please refer to this KB link carefully:
