System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

    Question

  • I'm getting a huge number of errors on my sharepoint server's application events log.

The extensible extension returned an unsupported error.
     The stack trace is:

From what I've read this is caused when you install an update with .NET 4 installed. .NET 4 is not installed on this server. I've restarted the services. What do I need to do to fix this?

  • Hi,

What is you SharePoint server’s version? If you didn’t apply the latest CU, please install them first, then see the result.

Did your user profile work except this error message?

Finally, you can delete the old user profile service application and related settings, such as databases, IIS settings, then create a new user profile service application, start user profile service, see the result.

    Thanks,
