Is there an upload limit?

    Question

  • Is there a limit on the size or # of items a user can upload? If so, where would I edit those settings.

  • in web.config increase the maxRequestLength , that will allow you to upload larger file. below is limit for 161 MB. you can increase it more if you want.

    <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="161200" executionTimeout="720" />

    secondly Timeouts also occur. Increase the time out time as well in web.config.

    do the above changes in your web.config or 80/bin folder as well as in

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\web.config location file. Sharepoint application pages under the layouts folder uses the web.config file at the following location.

    so both web.config of two diff locations must be updated with the request length and time out as mentioned above. 720 above meaning 12 minutes.

  • Is that size limit for individual files? or for the total that can be uploaded in one session?

    If I choose to upload multiple files at once, does the total of those files have to be under the limit? or just each file individually?

    For the timeout, is that an inactivity timeout? or is it just a general timeout no matter what you happen to be doing on the site?

  • this timeout is request execution timeout. it means if upload is taking longer and longer then it is time of execution of request object.

    this upload size is for one FULL Request. one request having multiple file will be considered in one limit. so answer is it is a combined total size.

  • In Central Administration / Application Management / Web application general settings you can edit the "Maximum Upload Size".

    The description for this setting is:

    "Specify the maximum size to allow for a single upload to any site. No single file, group of files, or content, can be uploaded if the combined size is greater than this setting. "

    Hope this helps,

  • Yes there is a upload file size limit.

    The default limit is set to 50mb, the maximun limit is 2Gb. You can changes these limits using stsadm.
