Verrouillé Customize appearance of Team Web Access 2010

    Hi all.

In the past external partner access team projects of Team Foundation Server 2008 by use of Team Web Access 2008.
We provided the pages "Home", "Work Items" and "Documents" to them by customizing the web access appearance.

Recently we upgraded to Team Foundation Server 2010 bringing Team Web Access 2010.

By default the pages "Home", "Work Items", "Source" and "Build" are provided.

Constrained by the established process we need to customize the web access appearance for Team Web Access 2010 as in the past:
    - Provide "Home", "Work Items" and "Documents"
    - Hide "Source" and "Build".

We kindly ask for a soultion for this issue! We need it very urgend, the sooner the better!

    Hi Cathy,

your hope does not come true.

What do you mean with "We only have links to them,..."?
We need to provide access to sharepoint documents from Team Web Access 2010 client for our external project partners as we did in the past!
Is it possible by use of the mentioned "links"?

Currently working together is not possible what is a disaster for business!

Please provide a concrete solution or at least a workaround.

    Hi Andi62,

    Sorry for the delayed response!

In Team Web Access 2010 client, you can see six shortcuts: Quarries, Reports, Source Control, Project Portal, Buid and Process Guidance. you can click these six shortcuts to access the related contents.

We suggest that use Web Access to manage Workitem and Build, Portal to view document and dashboad.

So you can click Project Protal above to access to sharepoint documents.

    Hope it helps!

    Hi Cathy,

    nice to chat with you.

But your answers do not help to us yet.
Now we know the links you mentioned.

Please take into account that we use a single server deployment:
TFS and its Web Access, SQL Server, Sharepoint Services and Reporting Services are installed on a single computer.
This computer is located within our intranet.
Access to VS TFS Web Access is possible by use of URL http://<computername>:8080/tfs/web.
From there we can successfully access the links to Queries, Source Control and Build, Reports, Project Portal and Process Guidance.

For our external partners we provided access to TFS Web Access through our firewall.
Access to VS TFS Web Access is possible by use of URL http://<IP>:8080/tfs/web.
From there we can successfully access the links to Queries, Source Control and Build.
But access to Reports, Project Portal and Process Guidance does not work.

We found out, when accessing VS TFS Web Access from the Internet by http://<IP>:8080/tfs/web, that the links work different:
Links to Queries, Source Control and Build point to http://<IP>:8080/tfs/web/... and work fine.
Links to Reports, Project Portal and Process Guidance point to http://<computername>:8080/tfs/web/... and do not work!

We need to know where to administer the links for Reports, Project Portal and Process Guidance to get them work.

Thanks for your time and your answer in advance.

Hello Cathy, we would be gratefull to get an proposal from you or someone familiar with our topic.

Till today we have not found a solution. Our customers and partners can not access project portal when using web access from internet.

    That is bad for business.

    Hi Andi62,

As the answer to most of your questions will be no (TWA is not customizable and to hide "Source" and "Build" the only way you can go is to use the Work Item Only View, however that is limited to a single Work Item Query which includes a CreatedBy = @Me filter).

As an alternative you might consider using a SharePoint portal where you add web parts that show the work item query results (as you were used to see them in TWA). Would that help?

    Best Regards,

    Hi Andi62,

“Documents” and “Reports” tabs have been removed from Web Access in 2010 version. The recommendation is to use SharePoint portal, and the Reporting Services websites directly as they provide a much better experience when working with documents and reports.

On Web Access Home page, you should be able to see the shortcuts to both of these sites. That said, the users will need direct access to both SharePoint and Reporting websites, so additional configuration might be necessary to make this happen (such as allowing access to these sites to external partners through a fully qualified domain name).

Regarding the ability to customize which tabs are visible/hidden; this feature is no longer available so it’s not possible to hide “Source” or “Build” tabs. Alternatively, you can consider using the “Work Item Only View”; which is a limited functionality mode in Web Access that allows basic work item tracking functionality and hides the “Source” and “Build” tabs. It is originally designed to enable users without TFS Client Access Licenses (CALs) to file new work items, and view the work items they’ve created; but it might work in your case too. For more information, see:

    • How to Enable Work Item Only View in Team Web Access
    • Manage Work Items in Work Item Only View

    Hope it helps!
