Unanswered Desktop app in the Windows8 store and SmartScreen?

    Hi,

I'm in the process of having my desktop app certified for windows8, and hopefully, submit it in the win8 store (as a desktop app).

At the moment, on the win8 ReleasePreview, my app is not granted by SmartScreen (although it's already code signed), and SmartScreen recommends to not install the app :(

I'm wondering if having the app published on the windows8 store will solve that problem, and make the app "granted" by SmartScreen?

    Can anyone from MS confirm?

    Thank you very much

    Regards

    William

    Hi WillyNT,

First, could you please consult the veritification provider if its certification can pass the AmartScreen. And then I need involve more to help you to confirm it.

    Hi Bob,

    Thx for your reply.

Starting from Win7 (and so, win8), there is no more "external" verification provider.

The app is self tested/verified, using appcertui (Windows App Certification Kit), provided part of the SDK.

    Unless I'm missing something?

    Thx for your help

    Regards

    William

Since start from Windows 8,  the SmartScreen start supports Desktop app, not only for IE browser.

Yes, that's exactly why I'd like an answer to my original question.

Having my app pass the "certification" test, an then published in the store, will make it pass SmartScreen in win8?

Also, could you confirm that SmartScreen in Win8 and in IE (9 / 10) use the same shared db?

    Thx

Oh, I need to consult it internal, since I do not find any public documents or pages can help to confirm it.

    Hi WillyNT,

Only Windows Style applications(Windows Store applications which are developed with VS 2012 on Win8) can be put on the Windows Store, desktop apps are not allowed.

    Hi William,

For now, there is no official document to publish, seems this is a new feature of Windows Store which will be added in future.

I'm having the same problem as Willy. My app is code signed but Win8 Smart Screen says it is not.
