I'm encountering a special issue here... Basically, I've a PowerPivot workbook that is using an Excel file as its data source. The Excel file is also located in SharePoint in a shared folder. That said, the PowerPivot source is set to \\server.domain\DavWWWRoot\SharedFolder\excel_source_file.xlsx. Opening the PowerPivot workbook works fine, refresh in Excel also works.
Now I've setup the scheduled data refresh and it comes back with the fantastic OLE-DB or ODBC error: Failure creating file.; 3436. I've been investigating that for hours without finding a solution until I realized that when from the server console, I access one time my \\server.domain\DavWWWRoot\SharedFolder folder within Windows Explorer (which works fine but takes about 30 seconds), then all the sudden the scheduled auto refresh works too...
Does someone is facing that issue too? Is the WebDAV not correctly initialized when the server starts? It just occurs on every server reboot. Can we set something to initialize WebDAV on a server start?

I think that you can collect the log information for further investigation. Here is an article about View Log Files (PowerPivot for SharePoint) for your reference, please see:
In addition, there is an article about troubleshooting PowerPivot Data Refresh. Please see:
