Question

Hello guys,

I've just released WebsitePanel 1.2.1 Beta!

If you have any feedback please use this thread to post it. It will be sticky for a while.

Note: it's beta, so do not hurry to install it on production.

What version of WSP Installer do you currently have?

Try to clean up "Data" folder in WSP Installer root folder.

Found the error

I created the key manually and didn't see that a few lines below my key, it was reset by this line

   <add key="Web.Service" value="" />

So make sure you put the beta link in there or delete it if you entered the whole key above it.

Hello Feodor,

Is there a timeframe when 1.2.1 beta might be available for production?

We just purchased SmarterMail 9 and can't use it with 1.2.0, one option would be to install v7 and upgrade to v9 but I was wondering how long would we have to wait until WebsitePanel 1.2.1 might be available for production.

Well, it depends on the feedback we will receive from community regarding 1.2.1.

Right now I don't have any feedback on 1.2.1 yet and most probably that means nobody has tested it.

We cannot release 1.2.1 without proper testing and this is the place where we need a help from community.

Hello, I'm testing on WSP 1.2.1 beta with Exchange 2010 SP2 on-premise configuration. Here are the questions I have:

1. What WSP Server services should I used for Exchange 2010 SP2? "Hosted Exchange" or "Exchange Hosting Mode"? If "Hosted Exchange", I can choose "Hosted Microsoft Exchange Server 2010" provider only.

2. If I choose to use "Hosted Exchange" with "Hosted Microsoft Exchange Server 2010" provider,  I got below error when creating the mailbox from WSP.

Hope it is not -> detach all email accounts, delete virtual server, delete mail server, add mailserver, import mail resources? Would be a serious job everytime.....

Overviews are snappier, big improvement.

So far no other issues found.

I have been diving in my (remote) smartermail problem a bit more:

The current SM7 provider gives the error below  (after the update to 1.2.1)

Stack Trace:	System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. ---> Can not create 'SmarterMail 7.x' provider instance with 'WebsitePanel.Providers.Mail.SmarterMail7, WebsitePanel.Providers.Mail.SmarterMail7' type ---> Value cannot be null.

I have uninstalled the WSPserver and reinstalled it to make sure it was fresh. (on the remote mail server)

Error remained

Trying to add the mailserver by using a new provider setup with SM9:

PS Just upgraded the mailserver to version 9.1 but it made no difference.

More testing done with Smartermail:

Setup a fresh new smartermail 9.1 server, installed WSPanel 1.2.1beta server and tried to access it remotely from my main system with 1.2.1.

Same error as before.

Then changed the WSPserver back to 1.2.0 and it the connection error disappeared.

So running a main standalone system on 1.2.1 accessing Smartermail 9.1 on a remote server with 1.2.0 WSPserver works.

Then I setup a new VM and installed 1.2.1 with SM9.1 locally and there I get the same error. It's not found during the discovery either, not locally, not remote.

Clearly something wrong in the Smartermail provider of 1.2.1 beta.

One other small thing I noticed, when I installed the WSPinstaller 1.2.1 it says the correct version during install but when I run it, it still shows 1.2.0....

I have trouble to create Mailboxes, I get 2 errors in the eventlog:

Web Application Gallery module is unavailable: 
- GeneralError:Service with ID 0 was not found

There are no web applications in this category.

I've experimented with gallery feed and https://www.microsoft.com/web/webpi/3.0/webapplicationlist.xml

W2K8 SP1 R2 64-bit

I have the same issue with SM v9.  I can call http://localhost:9998/services/ without error and login to http://localhost:9998 using the same username and password I enter into WSP mail config.

Updated SM to v9.1.4429 - no differrence :(

Changed admin password just in case it's sensitive to characters...same error

Removed and enabled Mail service from WSP - still no luck

Yes, all installed on one server.  

What's weird is that I'm sure it was fine when I oringinally setup the server (or I was dreaming it), but then changed SM to IIS and adjusted the WSP Mail panel to match, it never worked again!  I went back to enabling the default SM webserver port 9998 just in case and still no joy....

I'm going to launch a completely fresh W2k8 R2 SP1 x64 server (luckily I'm cloud based) and carry out a completely fresh install with just WSP 1.2.1 and SM 9 - If that doesn't resolve it, it's definately one for the devs...

Doesn't it make more sense to spilit up the threads about the beta

My suggestion would be to keep your announcement thread only for reports, what works and what not and get issues in a sperate thread.

I think it also makes sense if people would write down what they did test and what is working fine so you know if there is untested material?

I have tested:

Smartermail 8.4 and 9 both not working (local en remote tested)

SmarterStats 7.1 working fine

IIS7.5 works fine

MS DNS remote and local; fine

MYSQL 5.1: fine wih MYSQL connector 6.3.7

Gallery working fine,  Joomla 2.5 install still an issue

I installed 1.2.1 Beta on Exchange 2010 SP2 on-premise. I used the service "Hosted Exchange". I think that this is the right choice. Mine is a new installation and only errors I get was because incorrect settings of permissions. I followed Hosted Exchange Solution Pre-Deployment Tasks and all go fine.

The only problem is that 1.2.1 Beta seems don't support Address Book Policy :-)

I'm having difficulties with reproducing this error on my dev environment.

Looking at error .NET runtime could not locate WebsitePanel.Providers.Mail.SmarterMail9 managed type at WSP Server side.

Could you check that there is "WebsitePanel.Providers.Mail.SmarterMail9.dll" file in "bin" folder of WSP Server?

1. ABP support for Exchange 2010 SP2 (thanks Omar) - read release notes on how to enable it.

2. Updated WSP Installer to download WSP distros directly from CodePlex.

Fixed:

1. SmarterMail 7 and SmarterMail 9 providers were included into build script.

just installed the beta on our test server and it seems to be mind numbingly slow on all pages.

there also still seems to be page caching issues, you delete something, such as a space or a domain, and it shows up when the page reloads.

That's strange. There were no changes in WSP 1.2.1 affecting UI functionality...

Ent and portal are on their own dedicated server running 2008 R2 and SQL server 2008, they connect to a few WSP servers -

The Server with speed issues (only loading website properties) is also 2008 R2, it has 648 websites

We have two other servers, a 2003 server which has 450 websites and server proerties loads fast and another 2008 R2 server which runs smartermail and which has only a couple of websites (webmail etc) and is also fast to load.

None of the servers have heavy load in general.

Im not sure that is the case as I have other servers which I test which have many more services enabled than our production servers and they don't take hardly any time to load, same with the 2003 server which has lots of sites and just as many services (in fact more with ASP1.1 and php4 which are enabled as it is a much older server)

To me it seems that it is a 2008 issue when you start getting lots of websites it gets slower as you get more, like it has to loop through all the websites to read the specific website properties every time, the applicationHost.config is almost 3MB in size.

I don't think it is anything to do with how far apart the servers are (latency) as the server with speed problems in on the same DC in the UK (2ms ping time) as the enterprise server where as the 2003 server which is fine is actually in the US (136ms ping time).

If I go to the web server and try to add mail it also doesn't show SmarterMail 9.x.

both servers have the 9.x dll under websitepanel/server/bin 'WebsitePanel.Providers.Mail.SmarterMail9.dll'

Both these servers for 'upgraded' from 1.2.0 to 1.2.1, so it seems like its not updating the database or an xml somewhere to reflect the new service provider options?

Obviously i havent tested it so i only looked for the New-Mailbox cmdlet. The Enable-Mailbox also does have this "Database" optional parameter, so this change should also be implemented on the CreateMailEnableUserInternal method, line 1830.

As far as the "*" goes; on the Server configuration page, service Hosted Exchange, you need to set "Mailbox Database Name" property to "*". This value is added to organizations when creating and extending them for hosted exchange.

CreateMailEnableUser() uses "Enable-Mailbox" cmdlet, not "New-Mailbox".

Also, if you put "*" for database name on settings page it would crash as this value is used when creating a new mailbox database ("New-MailboxDatabase" cmdlet).

It seems this change is not trivial as it affects various parts here and there...

It would be great to get working and tested code for this feature in the form of pull request :)

Problem was the installer path has changed from
c:\Program Files (x86)\SMB SAAS Systems to just c:\Program Files (x86)\, so it did not 'include' the 'installed components' on the enterprise server, thus we didn't upgrade them from 1.2.0 to 1.2.1

Might want to make the installer check for the old path before it installs so it can take into consideration a possible installer config file that is in the old SMB SAAS Systems folder.

We compiled the latest changeset 616577774fac, AssemblyFileVersion("1.2.1.3"). This changeset contains room mailbox support. I saw new Address List named "xxxxxxxxx Rooms" in adsiedit.msc, path CN=All Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=HostedOrg,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=tld for newly created Hosted Organization, but I was not able to create room mailbox because of this error:

Cannot bind parameter 'IssueWarningQuota'. Cannot convert value "1844000KB" to type "Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Unlimited`1[Microsoft.Exchange.Data.ByteQuantifiedSize]".

I do not want to create separate fork for these errors, so please include them to the next release.

The first problem were four missing ObjToString() functions in CreateMailEnableUserInternal() method in Exchange2007.cs:

cmd.Parameters.Add("IssueWarningQuota", ObjToString(ConvertKBToUnlimited(issueWarningKB)));
cmd.Parameters.Add("ProhibitSendQuota", ObjToString(ConvertKBToUnlimited(prohibitSendKB)));

The second problem was missing ObjToString() in method SetCalendarSettings in Exchange2010.cs file:

cmd.Parameters.Add("AutomateProcessing", ObjToString(CalendarProcessingFlags.AutoAccept));

After these small modifications I am able to create room and equipment mailboxes without any problem.

I turned TextWriterTraceListener on yesterday and copied full PowerShell command from log file to clipboard. I was able to run this code succesfully from Ex. Mgmt. Shell on WSP1 server when I stopped code execution on the well-placed breakpoint during debugging - that is why I am quite sure the problem was only object incompatibility caused by missing ToStr().

My steps till now were - I went to  the Websitepanel Codeplex - Forks- select Fork named Exchange2010SP2Support, and click button Download on the right side.

We installed WSP Server application from this source code to our Exchange 2010Sp2, it doesn't work at all (Cannot add service after adding new Serve from Portal, nothing happens, just errors, cannot create neither organizations, nothing..)

Some people told me that I must crete new fork and if yes, why? also, do I have to select the specific change set to download complete source code for WSP (that supports Exch2010SP2)? 

Please, just first 2-3 steps how to download the right source code .. (this one now is obviously the wrong one).

Is there anything else I have to do? I thought that I just download the right source code (after I find the right one that supports Exchange2010 SP2), and install on our exchange 2010SP2 in lab. PLease,I'll be very grateful for any explanation..

We attempted to upgrade our Exchange 2010 SP2 installation to v1.2.1 and enable ABP support. I'd like to emphasize that our existing SP2 installation was working fine without ABP support.

* upgraded WSP Server to 1.2.1 on CAS, MAILBOX and DC servers. Upgrade was completed by overwriting existing files with those in "Upgrade" ZIP files on Codeplex;

* on CAS and MAILBOX, we disabled redirection to hosted edition and switched application pool back to ASP.NET v2.0. DC app pools are still configured for ASP.NET v4.0;

* upgraded our Enterprise Server installation to .6 by overwriting files.

We will now run a set of tests and checks to confirm everything is working fine but I'd like to confirm that early tests were successfull and everything seems to be working fine, including rooms and equipments mailboxes.

I would also like to confirm that changes to allow using "*" as mailbox database value to allow automatic management by Exchange itself are working fine.

I'll report any bug or problem which will occurr, if any.

Microsoft's involvement seems very limited, everything goes through outercurve, they seem to own the project but are not doing any development on it.

The only other company I am aware of giving support is expertservices.us which I think is the original DotNetPanel developers.

I'm really loving WSP. However, a development cycle is too long. This is fatal issue. The loss on the business by this is unfathomable.

A cycle is long and also has not fully responded to the feedback from a user. Many serious problems have been left. If this is the result of an open source, I may need to return to Parallels :(
