Adventureworks install error: No valid sql server instances are accessible for installation
-
sexta-feira, 19 de novembro de 2010 21:00So I'm trying to install Adventureworks but it fails with the error above. It also says the problem could be due to SMO issues. So the server team installed the sdk which supposedly installs SMO. Still get same error. The only thing that was not installed is the Management Studio and related items. Could this be causing it or am I missing something else?

I am having this problem as well. I have SQL2008r2 Standard on a clean install of Win7Ult. Filestraming is enabled and so is full text search. I have added the user account being used to run SQL to all of the SQL usergrourps that are added after an install I have also give full admin rights to that user as well. This is the full text of the error I get after trying to intall adventureworks2008r2
Installation started at 11/23/2010 11:46 AM.
Copying scripts and CSV files to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Samples\.
Script copying succeeded.
No valid SQL Server instances are accessible for installation. If instances are available the problem could be due to SMO issues.
Scripts and data are copied to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Samples\. You can manually run the scripts from there.
See http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Database%20Installer%20Help%20for%20SQL%20Server%202008R2 for instructions.
Installation ended on 11/23/2010 11:46 AM.
UPDATE
I downloaded Adventureworks2008 SR4 and it worked with one minor problem. It reported that filestream was not enabled and I know that it is. It still installed and is working. I also had SSMS open while the install was running I don't know if that had any affect or not. Adventureworks 2008 SR4 can be found here

terça-feira, 23 de novembro de 2010 18:39I got this same error when using SQL2008R2 and trying to install AdventureWorks2008r2. I gave up on that version of AdvertureWorks and downloaded AdventureWorks2008 SR4. You can get AdventureWorks2008 SR4 here http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com/releases/view/37109 I also had SSMS running during the install this may or may not help I am still very new to SQL.

Try going in the folder,( I think the folder is called Acventureworks OLTP 2008R2 or something like that),where the sample script is saved and double click on the file named instawdb. It should open up SSMS hit execute and you should be able to set up adventure works. Make sure you set the parameters for the dB location and the location for all the CSV in the script you will need to uncomment the two lines where you set the variables in the script . For the dB location its your choice and for the CSV files it is the same folder as your Adventureworks script is located in. Hope this helps
Cheers!

quinta-feira, 2 de dezembro de 2010 15:14I get the same problem. The installer just doesn't work. I'm sure you can work around it by installing scripts as per the other poster's suggestions- but I'd rather it just did it without breaking.

There was an issue with the 2008R2 SR1 samples database installer which should be fixed now. Please download again and let me know if you are still having problems.
