What determines whether an Edit option on attributes is provided when updating members in the Details view?

Hi

For one of the entities in MDS several attributes, and when I update/create a member an Edit option appears for only one of them in the Details window. This option is extremely helpful, since the edit option opens a dialogue box where one can filter on different attributes to assist in choosing a relevant one. The thing I do not understand is why does this only appear for one attributes, but for none of the others? Especially I would like it to appear for one other attribute that is pretty much identical to the one with the Edit option. Is there a way to control this?
