After upgrading 2007 -> 2010 via database attach, I am left with numerous content types repeated across numerous site collections - resulting in a significant management overhead.
What is the best method to migrate these content types to a Content Type Hub? Is it possible to re-parent a content type with it's published 'parent' without making changes at the item level?
Creating the Hub with desired CTs and publishing to each site collection fails due to the name conflict.
Any help appreciated.

You can save the site as template, import the wsp file to Visual Studio, modify all content types to have the parents content types which are published from the Hub, last but not least, deploy and activate the feature at farm level.
Since I am not a VS expert, I haven't test this before. If you encounter any issue with this approach, you can post a thread waiting for help in the Developing and programming forum.
Thanks & Regards.
