switch my job to IT, Is it possible?

hai friends,

i am diploma in mechanical engineering , currently i am working as a mechnical technician. But i am very intrested in computer ( IT) jobs. is it possible to change?  i heard Microsoft have  some exams to enter IT field. any body can tell me the details about that. is it have any training centeres in near chennai, pondycherry. Of course, it is possible for  you to switch to IT. But be aware of the risks. The transition may take more efforts and be more difficult than you think.
